Deciduous tree that gets its name from the smokey pink flower panicles thatappear at the tips of the branches in masses of pink clouds which hold the seeds. The flowers last almost the entire summer. Bronze green leaves becoming light green in late summer and scarlet red in the fall. Keep outdoors.

Native to Japan the Japanese Hornbeam has elliptical, heavily veined leaves with a pointed tip that looks like a delicate painting. Our native White Pine has long, fine needles, clustered in 5's along the branches gives a soft, feathery look. Golden needles cover a broad rounded canopy. Great year round but we find that its at its best in winter, when it seems to glow against snow or other bare trees. Hard. Keep outdoors.
